Learning Outcomes and Application The unit applies to the preparation, operation, monitoring and adjusting of moulding machines used to mould and attach soles to footwear.Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities.The application of this unit is according to OHS practices of the enterprise and workplace practices, which may include:requirements prescribed by legislation, awards, agreements and conditions of employmentstandard operating procedureswork instructionsoral, written and visual communicationquality practices, including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section outputhousekeepingtasks related to environmental protection, waste disposal, pollution control, and recyclingThis unit requires the application of skills associated with planning and organising to set up and operate moulding machines. Element: Set up and load moulding machine
  • Machine settings are adjusted to meet product requirements.
  • Sole moulds are checked and set according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Mould size, type and date stamp are checked.
  • Lasted uppers are loaded onto machine.
  • Mould material is prepared and checked for production.
  • Moulding tools and equipment are prepared and checked for production.
  • Non-conforming materials are reported.
  • Area around machine is cleaned during and on completion of setting and loading.
       
Element: Operate and monitor moulding machine
  • Machine is started up and shut down according to manufacturer requirements.
  • Machine operation is monitored to ensure correct procedures are assessed and product meets quality standards.
  • Checks are performed to ensure required flow of moulding material.
  • Non-conforming product is reported.
  • Waste is sorted.
  • Machine is cleaned when required.
  • Minor product process and machine faults are identified and addressed to meet specified requirements.
  • Major machine or product faults are reported.
  • Moulding is conducted according to OHS practices
       
Element: Remove footwear from machine
  • Moulded sole is checked against quality standards.
  • Footwear is unloaded from moulding machine according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Cleaning of area is completed to ensure work environment is maintained in a safe and productive manner.
